What's Dr. Epperly's Practice Like?

Dr. Epperly is a family practice medical doctor. Anjitha Thomas, PA-C, is his certified physician's assistant. Together they see children, adults, and elderly patients for a wide variety of health problems from routine to the more complex. There is a small support staff of nurses and a receptionist. His office is located in one of the modern medical professional buildings owned by Central Dupage Hospital. Dr. Epperly's philosophy toward medicine is to combine drug therapy with a robust amount of non-drug therapy. In fact, he tries to avoid drugs until they are really necessary or he uses them only if they are the most logical and effective therapy at the time because there isn't any good evidence-based natural therapeutic alternative.

Dr. Epperly makes every effort to address his patient's concerns and understands that medical problems are complex. He really tries to spend enough time with patients so that they feel listened to and cared for but all problems cannot be managed in one 40 minute visit. Therefore, we encourage patients to be clear on what he/she would like to accomplish at the initial visit and convey this to the doctor. A brief written summary of the patient's problems and previous treatments will quickly bring Dr. Epperly up to date and will facilitate your visit and allow more time to focus on the present course of treatment.

Dr. Epperly has found that by completing various questionnaires, it enables the gathering of a large amount of information in a shorter period of time.

At the end of your visit with him, you will almost always receive a complete printout of all the notes of your visit, which will include all of the recommendations or instructions given to you during the visit. This will give you an easy reference to use in case you forget anything that was discussed.

Since there is only so much teaching that he can do during a visit, Dr. Epperly frequently gives book titles to patients for them to purchase or check out of the library to learn more about diet and other issues such as Candida-related problems or food sensitivity problems. He also is a big believer in using handouts to teach patients important helpful concepts to lead them to optimum wellness more naturally. Finally, he may direct you to certain websites to go to for more information on a particular topic.

We ask that you do not wear any scented products (colognes, hair products, scented soaps, lotions, and deodorants) to our office as they interfere with allergy sensitive patients as well as allergy testing done in our office.

Integrative Medicine

Integrative medicine is a term that is becoming more popular these days. It's a form of medical practice that seeks to integrate conventional medicine (drugs and surgery) and complementary medicine. Complementary medicine includes many types of therapies ranging from botanicals (herbal medicine), nutrition supplements, special diets, chiropractic, spirituality, homeopathy, and many others. At our office, Dr. Epperly's form of integrative medicine utilizes nutrition, food sensitivity management, and a variety of botanical medicines.
