LABWORK

For patients seeing Dr. Epperly or Anjitha for Thyroid or Hormone issues, it can be helpful to have some blood tests done before the visit. These are generally the labs Dr. Epperly would like, but the list is not exclusive and only a personal consultation can definitively decide which labs would be the best for your particular situation. It is possible that for you, some tests could be done unnecessarily and/or some other tests may be needed. Therefore, it is up to you whether to have these done before or after your initial consultation.

Thyroid include:
TSH, Free T3 and Free T4.
DHEA-S
Vitamin D

Women’s Hormone include:
TSH, Free T3 and Free T4.
DHEA-S
Vitamin D
Testosterone (Free and Total)
Estradiol
FSH

Men’s Hormone include:
TSH, Free T3 and Free T4.
DHEA-S
Vitamin D
Testosterone (Free and Total, Bioavailable)
Estradiol
Liver panel
Hb/Hct

We recommend you check with your insurance regarding cost and lab preference. For patients that are able to use Quest lab, we can order these tests via computer so that you can go to any Quest facility and the order will be in their system. When you go for the testing please make sure Quest has your insurance information. For non-Quest labs we will need a fax number for the lab of your choice so that we can fax an order there.

Hormone blood work is best done day 20-24 of your cycle. If you do not get a period or if your periods are irregular, you can do it any time.

If you already take thyroid medication, it is best if you have your blood work done before taking that day’s dose.

It is best to have the labs done approx 2 weeks before your scheduled visit to be sure the results are back. Copies of test results will only be made available to you at your initial consultation.
